cheating? Have you even played WoW? 90% of their game is grinding bullshit that not even whatever no life moron that enjoys grinding enjoy. Blizzards legal department had an argument that botters spend more time in game than anyone else and consuming more resources, wtf does that even mean? consume more resources, like, server bandwith? Give me a break, blizzard can't even keep their f.word servers up properly with causal players playing on it.

No sir, botting is not cheating, Blizzard just say it is because they don't want you to get things too fast because they want more money. Grind=time=money, that's their business formula.

huh? what are u talking about??

if u read the link u'd know he made the money selling his bot to players. Somethin which i think is perfectally illegal since he's making real money from some1 elses (blizzards) software by selling a 3rd party program.

which is exactly why i dont play any other MMORPG, because i believe once u paid for a game its urs t play and u shouldn't have to pay for the rest of ur life to play it.

If I got it right this was not a gold farming bot, but a 'play WoW for me' bot. The thing did/does(?) quests and advanced your character through the game for you.

If you know how much of wow is taken over by plug-ins and macro's, written thanks to WoW's own API, I don't see how they can still claim they don't allow thrith party program's.

Surely if its breaking Blizzard's user agreement in relation to the playing of game it is cheating. Blizzard has set the rules and using third party programs to play the game is breaking them. You are simply trying to use a weak agrument to justify it.

And that is another reason for why GW is a superior game to WoW. If you want to have some fun in WoW and join a raid, you'll have to grind x hours in advance to stock up necessary consumables, i.e., do tedious, repetitive, un-fun work in order to have some fun. Not for me, thanks. When I want to have fun, I log in GW, gather some company, fill the rest with heroes and off we go spelunking (the consumables of GW are strictly optional and only for people who can't bother learning to play, and there's nothing wrong in that either).

About the bot maker, maybe Blizzard should make games that can be enjoyed fully without botting?

Nothing illegal with MAKING and SELLING Bot programs, the buyer might break the EULA by using it.

Will be intressting to see the verdict on this as it will impact all 3rd party software.

Legally, Blizzard has some pretty weak claims.... And whether or not it is cheating in game has no impact on the legal determination of whether this guy can keep the money or not.

The copyright argument is pretty solid, because no violations of section 106 of the copyright act have occured, so unless there is something in the user agreement that specifically subjects him to real world liability, the worst that can happen to the guy is that he is banned from playing the game.

The money he earned was not money that Blizzard would have made. He earned that himself through marketing a separate product. And he really didn't hurt anyone in the process (outside of the game at least).

More power to him for finding some way to make an a--load of money.

QFT! >_<

Oh and a bot that can play for me? WOW! Where can I get this, so that I can stop having fun learning a game and cripple my teammates when I decide to actually play it? And where can I pick this up for GW too, 'cause I'm tired of grinding for all the FoW sets I need 'cause-...

/sarcasm off .... I can't keep it up. Doesn't sound right to me even in sarcasm =_=.

I don't believe in botting and I don't think this Michael guy should have a leg to stand on.

I can't believe that people are trying to stand up for this guy? You don't like to grind? Don't play the game? You want to skip to the "fun" stuff? Well guess what, welcome to the real world, you don't always get what YOU want. People today want everything just given to them without even lifting a finger to work to get it. We all want instant gratification. ME ME ME...its all about ME and what I want. Well tough shit. You cry about having to pay a monthly fee and it takes too much time to grind and on and on. Well I bet every single person knew what they were getting themselves into when the first bought the game so don't starting using the monthly fee as some lame ass excuse to use bots cause you don't have the time to play the game the way it was designed. Don't like it? Cancel your account and stop playing WoW. Don't buy Blizzards games. Don't support them.

If Blizzard (and any other game company) wanted you to reach level 70 and have the best gear without you actually having to play the game then they would just give you all the best shit during the character creation stage. How fun would that be? Thats why I whole heartedly support Guild Wars level cap and a set max mods for weapons and armors. Then you don't have to worry that you have the best possible or have unfair gear compared to the rest of the population. I like that Guild Wars "leet" stuff is purely cosmetic. You don't NEED it to play the game.

But saying that this guy is justified in selling the bots is just unbelievable.

Well this guy is going to lose at least half of that money maybe even all... Blizzards going to whip up a storm with this guy. But seriously, its not fair that WoW expects players to keep grinding for every single level. But i suppose the fact that it requires players so long to achieve levels that makes them money through the monthly fees, its a big scam anyways. GW is so much better in that aspect, it doesn't require you to play for long hours and you could even finish some of the campaigns in a day or two.

It's not a question about being justified, it's a question about if it's illigal to make 3rd party software (includes any software running within Windows or anyother OS) and the use of Macros to do simple tasks.
If this guy losses in court anyone writting a program would be breaking the law unless they also write their own OS.

I never knew that one should take a video game for a real life setting. Like you said, in real life one does not get what they want when they want, but video games, like WoW, are meant as a tool for escapism. If I wanted to grind 4 weeks to get to level 70 and an other 2 weeks for decent armour and weapons I'd do it, but that's 6weeks to grinding. If there is a tool out there that can level ones character to 70 in a fraction of the time, so they can have more fun faster go for it.

Blizzard just makes the grind so long so they can profit more, which is the problem with pay to play systems.

Yikes, this thread is already evolving in a WoW vs GW story, AGAIN.

Anyway, to give my modest opinion, I agree with beanerman. Not about that "life is hard" thingy, but his statement "don't starting using the monthly fee as some lame ass excuse to use bots cause you don't have the time to play the game the way it was designed. Don't like it? Cancel your account and stop playing WoW".

But then, if people insist on playing WoW, but want to use bots, who am I to say not to throw their money down the drain? I just watch from a safe distance, and laugh.

That would explain why all the so-called "elite" guilds (ab)use consumables in their elite mission runs. Clearly they should l2p.

Or, perhaps, consumables should be seen as what they are: turbo mode for GW. After three years, people are bored of the same old plodding pace of PvE.

OK, I am not a lawyer. But it does seem to me that developing software that works only with someone else's software requires purchasing a developers' license from the other company.

Of course, if the bot will work with any MMO, then it doesn't require such a license. If it ONLY works with WoW, then he will be lucky not to go to jail.

Please correct me if I've misinterpreted the copyright laws as they apply to software.
